Senior Systems Engineer – Avionics
Location: Englewood, CO
Pay Rate: $88.28/hour
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Systems Engineer – Avionics to support the design and development of next-generation military aviation systems. This role is critical to shaping the future of advanced aircraft by providing system-level leadership in avionics architecture, integration, and technical execution. The ideal candidate brings strong aerospace engineering fundamentals, deep avionics systems experience, and a passion for advancing performance, safety, and efficiency.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the conceptualization, development, and refinement of advanced avionics systems and aircraft-level integrations. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics hardware and software, materials, and manufacturing—to ensure successful execution from early concept through production.

In support of the UJTS program, you will research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy, and improve cutting-edge aerospace products and services. The scope of work includes advanced mission systems, electronic and avionics architectures, highly integrated aircraft platforms, and space-related systems. You will contribute across the full product lifecycle, including design, analysis, and testing of complex systems and components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support systems engineering activities for advanced avionics and aircraft systems
  • Contribute to system architecture development and avionics requirements definition and allocation
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective avionics and system integration
  • Perform design, analysis, and validation of avionics and aircraft-level systems
  • Identify and manage technical risks and support high-impact trade studies
  • Support system integration, verification, and validation (V&V) activities
  • Establish, track, and manage key Technical Performance Measurements (TPMs)

Required Skills & Experience
Must-Haves:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary design and development teams
  • Thorough understanding of:
  • Requirements management
  • Functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation
  • Systems design and systems integration
  • Technical risk identification and management strategies
  • Verification and Validation (V&V) principles

Preferred:
  • Advanced experience with requirements management and system modeling tools (e.g., DOORS, Rhapsody, NoMagic, MATLAB)
  • Knowledge of industry-standard avionics and systems design principles, including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Experience or certification aligned with INCOSE standards
  • Background in the Aerospace & Defense industry
  • Experience leading baseline definition and maturation in complex development environments
  • Strong experience establishing and tracking Technical Performance Measurements (TPMs)

Working Conditions
  • Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (temperature extremes, weather)

  • Rarely exposed to loud noise environments

Education
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering or a related discipline
  • Typically 10+ years of relevant experience
