Software Engineer
Job Description
Join a team developing advanced software solutions that support next-generation modeling, simulation, and training systems for defense and aerospace applications. This position offers the opportunity to design, develop, integrate, and maintain software for complex simulation environments while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams. The ideal candidate is a strong C/C++ software engineer with experience developing high-performance applications, working from technical requirements, and contributing throughout the software development lifecycle.
This is a full-time, on-site position located in Orlando, Florida. Domestic and international travel may be required in support of customer programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, modify, and maintain software applications and system components using industry best practices.
- Develop new software capabilities while enhancing and supporting existing applications.
- Translate customer and system requirements into well-designed, maintainable software solutions.
- Perform software design, implementation, debugging, unit testing, integration, and documentation.
- Develop software that complies with established coding standards, software architecture, and configuration management processes.
- Participate in software verification, validation, and formal testing activities.
- Utilize existing software frameworks, reusable components, and approved open-source technologies to maximize development efficiency.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate software into complex simulation and training systems.
- Maintain task schedules and communicate progress to ensure program cost and schedule objectives are achieved.
- Support software configuration management, version control, and release processes.
- Assist with troubleshooting, system integration, and technical support during development and deployment.
- Travel domestically and internationally, as required.
- Support occasional extended work hours or modified schedules to meet program milestones.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Professional experience developing software using C and/or C++.
- Experience with object-oriented software design and development.
- Experience developing software from technical requirements and system specifications.
- Experience using software configuration management and version control tools.
- Familiarity with software architecture, software design methodologies, and the complete software development lifecycle.
- Experience developing software in Windows and/or Linux environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of mathematics, including linear algebra.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, if required.
- Ability to comply with U.S. export control regulations.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
- Two or more years of professional software development experience or equivalent project experience supported by a portfolio.
- Experience developing software for modeling, simulation, or training systems.
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Full-motion training simulators
- Avionics systems
- Instructor/operator stations
- Electronic control loaders
- Simulation servers
- Experience with simulation technologies such as:
- Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)
- Semi-Automated Forces (SAF)
- Flight model software
- Image generators
- Datalink simulation software
- Experience developing networked applications using TCP/IP and UDP communication protocols.
- Familiarity with Agile software development environments.
- Experience using development and collaboration tools such as:
- Visual Studio
- Eclipse
- GNU Make
- Atlassian Jira
- Confluence
- Bitbucket
- Jama
- Microsoft Office
- Languages: C, C++
- Operating Systems: Windows, Linux
- Networking: TCP/IP, UDP
- Development Tools: Visual Studio, Eclipse, GNU Make
