Job Description


Join a highly technical engineering team developing advanced software solutions that support next-generation aviation training and flight simulation systems. This role is ideal for a software engineer with strong C/C++ development experience who enjoys working at the intersection of software, avionics, and simulation. You will design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain software supporting complex flight simulation environments while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality, mission-critical solutions.

The ideal candidate has experience integrating avionics systems into simulators, understands aviation communication protocols, and thrives in a collaborative, hands-on development environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain software applications supporting aviation and flight simulation systems.
  • Modify existing software while developing new components and capabilities based on program requirements.
  • Translate customer and system requirements into well-designed, maintainable software solutions.
  • Develop software using industry best practices, coding standards, and object-oriented design principles.
  • Perform unit testing, integration testing, and software verification to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Develop and execute software test procedures while documenting test results and system performance.
  • Support the integration of avionics equipment, simulator hardware, instructor stations, servers, and related systems.
  • Utilize internal software libraries and approved open-source technologies to improve efficiency and reduce development costs.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Participate in configuration management processes and follow established software development policies and procedures.
  • Track assigned work, communicate project status, and meet established cost and schedule objectives.
  • Collaborate with software, systems, electrical, and integration engineers to resolve technical challenges.
  • Support domestic and international travel for system integration, installation, testing, and customer support activities.
  • Work extended or modified schedules when required to meet critical program milestones.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional experience developing software using C and C++.
  • Experience with object-oriented software development.
  • Experience working with unmanaged programming languages.
  • Experience developing software from defined system requirements or creating technical requirements from customer needs.
  • Experience using software configuration management tools and version control systems.
  • Familiarity with software design methodologies and software development lifecycle best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Basic understanding of linear algebra and mathematical concepts applicable to software development.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, if required.
  • Ability to comply with U.S. export control regulations.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience integrating Garmin avionics, particularly the Garmin G5000H suite, into flight simulators.
  • Experience developing or integrating software for:
    • Full-flight or full-motion simulators
    • Avionics systems
    • Instructor Operator Stations (IOS)
    • Electronic Control Loaders (ECL)
    • Simulation servers
  • Knowledge of aviation communication protocols, including:
    • ARINC 429
    • RS-232
    • CAN Bus
  • Experience with TCP/IP networking, including TCP and UDP protocols.
  • Two or more years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent project experience supported by a technical portfolio.
  • Aviation maintenance education or certifications such as AEA, A&P, AMTS, or similar.
  • Experience working in Linux and Windows development environments.
  • Familiarity with modern engineering tools, including:
    • Visual Studio
    • GNU Make
    • Eclipse
    • JIRA
    • Confluence
    • Bitbucket
    • Jama
    • Microsoft Office Suite
