Overview
We are seeking a Hardware Certification & Compliance Lead to drive the planning, development, and execution of certification efforts for complex electronic hardware systems supporting aerospace and defense applications.

This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, hardware development, and regulatory compliance, ensuring products meet stringent design assurance, verification, and certification standards. You will play a key role in translating engineering outputs into certifiable artifacts while guiding cross-functional teams through the full hardware lifecycle.

What You’ll Own Hardware Certification & Compliance
  • Lead end-to-end DO-254 certification activities across the hardware lifecycle
  • Own development and integrity of certification artifacts such as:
    • PHAC (Plan for Hardware Aspects of Certification)
    • HDP (Hardware Development Plan)
    • HAS (Hardware Accomplishment Summary)
  • Define and manage Design Assurance Levels (DAL) across programs
  • Establish compliance frameworks, review gates, and audit readiness strategies

Documentation & Technical Authority
  • Develop and maintain critical certification and engineering documentation, including:
    • Verification plans and procedures
    • Test reports and compliance evidence
    • Technical white papers and supporting artifacts
  • Build and maintain traceability across requirements, design, and verification outputs
  • Consolidate inputs from engineering teams into structured, certifiable deliverables

Systems & Requirements Integration
  • Partner with Systems Engineering to ensure alignment between system-level and hardware requirements
  • Support definition of:
    • Interfaces and I/O requirements
    • Performance and environmental constraints
  • Ensure hardware designs meet applicable aerospace, defense, and regulatory standards

Verification & Compliance Execution
  • Support and guide verification and validation efforts to meet DO-254 objectives
  • Ensure all verification outputs are captured as objective evidence for certification
  • Apply knowledge of relevant standards, including:
    • EMI/EMC (MIL-STD-461)
    • Environmental qualification (MIL-STD-810, DO-160)

Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Work across hardware, firmware/software, mechanical, test, and quality teams
  • Participate in technical reviews, audits, and certification milestones
  • Communicate compliance status, risks, and progress to leadership and stakeholders

What You Bring Experience & Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • 8+ years of experience in hardware, systems engineering, or related domains
  • Hands-on experience with DO-254 or similar regulated hardware development environments
  • Strong understanding of MIL standards and aerospace/defense compliance frameworks

Technical Foundation
  • Familiarity with:
    • Circuit card assemblies (CCAs)
    • Printed wiring boards (PWBs)
    • Schematic design processes
  • Broad exposure to:
    • Embedded systems (hardware + firmware/software)
    • Digital and analog electronics
    • Mechanical system integration

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable interfacing with engineering teams, program leadership, and customers
