I’m working with a team that’s building a next-generation military aircraft, and they’re looking for a Principal Systems Engineer who wants to be involved at the front end of aircraft design — where architecture, requirements, and technical decisions really matter.
This role is ideal for someone who’s spent years in complex aerospace or defense programs and enjoys working across disciplines to turn mission needs into real, flyable systems. You’ll be part of a small, senior-level group shaping early design decisions and helping guide the aircraft from concept into reality.
You’ll collaborate daily with engineers across aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, structures, and manufacturing, helping align requirements, manage technical risk, and keep designs moving in the right direction. The work spans everything from advanced mission systems to fully integrated aircraft platforms as part of the UJTS program.

You’ll collaborate daily with engineers across aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, structures, and manufacturing, helping align requirements, manage technical risk, and keep designs moving in the right direction. The work spans everything from advanced mission systems to fully integrated aircraft platforms as part of the UJTS program.
What you’d be doing
- Helping define aircraft system architecture and requirements
- Breaking down mission needs into clear, actionable system and subsystem requirements
- Supporting system integration, verification, and validation efforts
- Leading or contributing to trade studies and technical risk assessments
- Tracking technical performance as the design matures
- Working hands-on with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout development
Must-have experience:
- Strong background in systems engineering and engineering fundamentals
- Significant experience working on complex, multidisciplinary development programs
- Deep understanding of requirements management, system integration, risk management, and V&V
Nice to have:
- Experience with tools like DOORS, Rhapsody, NoMagic, or MATLAB
- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
- INCOSE-aligned experience or certification
- Aerospace or defense program background
- Experience leading baseline definition and design maturation
- Familiarity with Technical Performance Measurements (TPMs)
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or a related field
- Typically 14+ years of relevant experience
- Primarily office and lab based
- Minimal exposure to harsh environments or hazardous materials
