This position is on-site and requires close collaboration with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams to deliver rugged, standards-compliant trainer hardware suitable for repeated student use.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and document mechanical and electromechanical components for training and simulation systems

  • Create mechanical housings, panels, and interface assemblies supporting TTL signal-level connections (no live power distribution)

  • Support system-level integration of simulated effects through physical layouts, connectors, indicators, and user interfaces

  • Apply applicable industry and military standards, including ISM 1400-series standards, to mechanical design efforts

  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and bills of material using Autodesk Inventor

  • Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, test events, and engineering change processes

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure mechanical designs align with electrical and software interfaces

  • Support transition from prototype to low-rate or full-rate production

  • Ensure designs meet requirements for durability, safety, manufacturability, and maintainability in a training environment
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline

  • 3–7 years of relevant mechanical or electromechanical engineering experience

  • Professional experience using Autodesk Inventor for mechanical design and drawing release

  • Experience designing mechanical enclosures, panels, or trainer-style hardware

  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD programs, military training systems, or simulators

  • Exposure to simulation, test equipment, or instructional devices

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD or industry technical standards

  • Experience designing hardware intended for frequent student or operator interaction

  • Ability to obtain or currently hold a U.S. security clearance
Work Environment

  • On-site engineering and lab environment

  • Hands-on involvement with prototype hardware and system integration activities

  • Collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and program teams
