We are seeking an experienced Designer III to join our team in Hagerstown, MD. In this role, you will contribute to the development of highly complex designs spanning advanced mission payloads, electronic systems, integrated aircraft, and orbital or space exploration systems. This position requires strong technical expertise, creativity, and attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and completeness of engineering designs.

We are seeking an experienced Designer III to join our team in Hagerstown, MD. In this role, you will contribute to the development of highly complex designs spanning advanced mission payloads, electronic systems, integrated aircraft, and orbital or space exploration systems. This position requires strong technical expertise, creativity, and attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and completeness of engineering designs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop highly complex designs for a wide range of aerospace and defense applications.
- Create and review layouts, drawings, and models for clarity, completeness, and accuracy.
- Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies; recommend revisions or improvements.
- Guide design and development of jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, and semi-automated equipment.
- Provide engineering design concepts supporting manufacturing processes and tooling.
- Develop CAD model concepts, including 3D modeling and detailed 2D drawings using 3D Xperience or similar tools.
- Participate in design conception and assist in developing processes within a team environment.
- Ensure design completeness through fabrication, including tool and process tryout.
- Provide technical support to product engineering for producibility through manufacturing, testing, and field use.
- Assist in defining tool acceptance criteria for in-house fabrication or external procurement.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong background in component and system tooling design for aircraft modification and component sub-assembly operations.
- Experience guiding design and development of tooling and mechanical systems with general direction.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as 3D Xperience, with strong 3D modeling and 2D drafting capabilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.
- Demonstrated ability to support design from concept through fabrication and testing.
Education & Experience
- Required: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience.
- Higher education may substitute for relevant experience.
- Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Experience with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools.
